Stopping Smoking Benefits
Perhaps you may know that quitting smoking brings great benefits but you may...

Did you know that the average smoker fails 3 - 6 times before they finally quit smoking? Ouch! Who wants to deal with that? You might be telling yourself that heck, with odds like those, you might as well not try to stop smoking at all! It's certainly easy to fall into this trap, and just give up before you've even given it a shot...

But let's take a look at some of the statistics, and see what they tell us: - 3 - 5% of those who attempt to quit "cold turkey" succeed - 7% of those who attempt to quit using a NRT such as patches, gum, or inhalers succeed - 10% of those who attempt to quit after receiving an order to stop from a physician succeed - 30.5% of those who attempt to quit while using a quit smoking program/support mechanism succeed OK, let's stop there... Do you see what I'm seeing here? Those who receive support, or have taken the time to invest in their success with a program, or structure are the most likely to succeed! So what does this tell us? This is just my personal opinion of course, but I feel that most of those who start off using a patch, gum or some sort of nicotine replacement right out of the gate are planning to fail.

Before you start throwing stones at me, please hear me out. Just as anything in life, there are those who are 100% committed to success, and convinced they can and will win, and then you have those who want to do something... Sort of... They haven't quite convinced themselves it's going to happen, so they prepare for the worst right out of the gate. I've been around enough smokers to hear the same old story over and over: "I wanted to quit, but I didn't think I could..." See? This is the mindset you must avoid if you're going to win the battle! If you go and grab a product that's going to keep feeding you nicotine on an ongoing basis as your way of "quitting smoking" you're already telling yourself that you need this drug, even when you're trying to tear yourself away from it!

Now I understand each persons situation is different. I'm not raining on your parade if you have already, or perhaps are in the process of quitting smoking while using one of these products. However, I'm simply stating that most who attempt to quit smoking have not fully committed to the process just yet, which is why we see that nearly 97% of them go right back to smoking, even after the nicotine no longer plays a role. (It's the emotional addiction that's getting them) However, with all this in mind, I do still acknowledge that the patches and gum still nearly double the success rate of those who try to quit smoking cold turkey, and if that's what has worked, or will work for you, then so be it! If it helps you quit, then have at it! So at the end of the day, you've seen the odds, you know you want to quit, so what's stopping you?
